Symons Recreation Complex:
Proposed Main Floor
John and Edith Symons donated the entire cost of Symons Recreation Complex in 1987, a gift of $1.3 million. Less than a decade
later, in 1999, donations allowed us to expand the building, including the weight room, and add more exercise equipment.
Now, 10 years, later, we must expand again. A public gymnasium, indoor jogging track, and zero-depth pool will
address our growing community needs for family activities and increased fitness possibilities. Citizens should not be restricted
by age, physical limitations, or weather in pursuit of good health and family fun.
This blueprint of the main floor details the addition of a zero-depth pool, which is ideal for youngsters and those with physical
limitations. It frees up the current 25-yard pool for active lap swimming and aerobic classes. Other additions include new
locker rooms, a public gymnasium for non-school related sports and activities, and a family/senior center. The center will include
TV's, comfortable chairs, game tables, and will provide an area for people to meet together in a relaxed, informal setting.
